Get up to $5,000 to improve your home’s energy efficiency

The Home Efficiency Rebate can help lower your energy costs and make it more comfortable year-round. Get up to $5,000 in rebates for insulation, air sealing, new windows/doors, water heaters, boilers, furnaces and home energy assessments.

  • Package 1 – Attic, Air Sealing, Home energy audit – reimbursement- $1600
  • Package 2 – Attic, Air Sealing, Furnace, Home energy audit – reimbursement-$2000

To participate in the Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate you must meet the following requirements:

  • Live in a detached house, semi-detached house or row townhouse.
  • The residence must be heated by natural gas furnace or boiler
  • The residence must be in the Enbridge Gas Account holder
  • You must complete a home energy audit, both a Pre and Post renovations energy audit must take place.
  • You must complete at least two (2) eligible renovations/upgrades.
  • If you are upgrading your natural gas furnace, you must complete at least 2 additional upgrades (a total of 3 upgrades) to qualify.

STEP 1

Book your Pre Retrofit Energy Audit

Let us evaluate your home and create a renovation upgrade report based on your potential upgrades.

Our Registered Energy Advisor will assess how your home uses energy and advise you which upgrades will help you reduce your energy bill. This step is conducted before any upgrades are started.

STEP 2

Eligible upgrades

To qualify for Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate, you must complete at least 2 of the following upgrades:

Attic insulation
Increase attic insulation from R-35 or less to at least R-60. Eligible Rebate Amount: $750
Increase insulation to a cathedral/flat roof by at least R-14. Eligible Rebate Amount: $650

Note: Rebates are pro-rated based on the percentage of total ceiling area upgraded—a minimum of 20 percent must be upgraded. If both attic and cathedral/flat roof are upgraded, rebates will remain capped at $750. Those who completed their initial energy assessment as of June 3, 2021 are eligible for $750.

Exterior Wall Insulation

Prorated based on minimum 20% completed excluding foundation walls.

Add at least R-20 to 100% of building Eligible Rebate Amount: $3,000
Add at least R9- for 100% of building to achieve a minimum of R-12 Eligible Rebate Amount: $1,750
Add at least R-3.8 for 100% of building to achieve a minimum of R-12 Eligible Rebate Amount: $1,000

Note: Rebates are pro-rated based on the percentage of total wall area upgraded—a minimum of 20% must be upgraded. Homes with less than 2×4 structure are exempt from R12 minimum with photo documentation of wall structure.

Basement insulation

 

For adding at least R-23 to 100% of basement wall. Eligible Rebate Amount: $1,250
For adding at least R-12 to 100% of basement wall. Eligible Rebate Amount: $750
For adding at least R-23 to 100% of crawl space wall. Eligible Rebate Amount: $1,000
For adding at least R-12 to 100% of crawl space wall. Eligible Rebate Amount: $500
For adding at least R-32 to 100% of floor above crawl space. Eligible Rebate Amount: $1,000

Note: Receive a $500 bonus if 100 percent basement insulation is achieved.

Rebates are pro-rated based on the percentage of total wall area upgraded—a minimum of 20% must be upgraded. If insulating 100% of basement, only a 5% minimum of total wall area is required. Minimum R8 is required for existing insulation. Does not include walls between individual units. Semi-detached houses will receive 75% of the amounts shown. If both a basement and crawl space are upgraded, rebates will remain capped at $1,250 based on the total combined wall area of basement and crawl space. Can qualify for either crawl space or floor above crawl space rebate. Foundation exterior walls include pony wall, basement walls and crawlspace exterior walls but not floor above crawlspace.

High-Efficiency Furnace or Boiler

 

Replace an existing natural gas furnace with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) that is less than 96 percent with a condensing natural gas furnace with an AFUE rating of 96 percent or higher. Eligible Rebate Amount: $250
Replace an existing natural gas boiler with an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) that is less than 90 percent with a condensing natural gas boiler with an AFUE rating of 90 percent or higher. Eligible Rebate Amount: $1,000

Note: If you are upgrading your natural gas furnace, you must complete at least 2 additional upgrades (a total of 3 upgrades) to qualify for the Home Efficiency Rebate.

The combi system qualifies as a boiler and is eligible for the rebate.  Combi is a boiler driven system which qualifies as a boiler rebate only. Boiler that generates both space heating and domestic hot water (includes AFUE rating).

Air Sealing
 

Achieve the base target determined during your home energy assessment. Eligible Rebate Amount: $100
Achieve 10% or more above the base target determined during your home energy assessment. Eligible Rebate Amount: $150

Note: The baseline calculation is completed during the pre-retrofit energy evaluation.

Energy Savings Tip #6: Blower Door Fan

Window/Door/Skylight
Replace existing window, door or skylight with ENERGY STAR certified models® Eligible Rebate Amount: $40

Note: Get $40 per rough opening. Bay windows qualify for one $40 rebate.

Water heater
Replace existing natural gas water heater with an ENERGY STAR® certified tank type natural gas water heater with an Energy Factor (EF) rating of 0.77 or higher  
Replace existing natural gas water heater with an ENERGY STAR® certified tank type natural gas water heater with a Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) rating of 0.80 or higher Eligible Rebate Amount: $400
Replacing existing natural gas water heater with an ENERGY STAR® certified tankless natural gas water heater with a Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) rating of 0.87 or higher.  

Note: A combo system (water heater driven combination system) qualifies for one $400 rebate.  Combo is a water driven system which qualifies as a water heater rebate only. Domestic water heater (usually with air handler – fan) that generates hot water and space heating (includes EF rating). Replacing existing heating system and water heater with a water driven combo system counts as one measure and qualifies for the water heater rebate only

Note:* If you are upgrading your natural gas furnace, you must complete at least 2 additional upgrades (a total of 3 upgrades) to qualify for the Home Efficiency Rebate.

If you are upgrading your natural gas boiler, you must complete at least 1 additional upgrades (a total of 2 upgrades) to qualify for the Home Efficiency Rebate.

Do more, get bonus rebates

  • 3 Upgrades – $150
  • 4 Upgrades – $500
  • 5 Upgrades – $750
  • PLUS: Insulate 100 percent of your basement for an additional $500 bonus rebate.

STEP 3

Book your Post Retrofit Home Energy audit

Our Energy Advisor will return to your home and evaluate the upgrades that have been completed. We will provide you with an EnerGuide rating (see below) that will display how energy efficient your home is and submit your improvements on your behalf to Enbridge.

STEP 4

Receive your rebate cheque from Enbridge

Enbridge will send you a rebate cheque based on the upgrades you completed, in addition you will enjoy further savings on each utility bill year after year.

Cost of the Audits

  • First Audit – $480+HST = $542.40
  • Final Audit – $210+HST = $237.30

The final rebate cheque will include a $600 reimbursement to offset the cost of both the initial and final energy audit.
